One of the guys at work (unfortunately a C*^#n user) is involved in the Heritage Fleet in Sydney. He's suggested we have a meet there sometime - and I'm looking for expressions of interest.
 In his words...
The fleet consists of a number of working steam vessels and of course the James Craig which is a square rigged steel barque. The John Oxley is based at Darling Harbour. The steam vessels and the workshops are based at Black Wattle Bay. There are two steam vessels which are in regular use. The Lady Hopeton a 1902 steam yacht and the tug Waratah. Both are alongside the wharfs and open to visitors. A large coastal steamer the John Oxley is up on a floating pontoon undergoing a major refit. She is having new hull plates made and hand riveted in place, a trade that has all but died out now in the era of welded ships. She is also open to escorted visitors. Also alongside the pontoon is the harbour ferry Kanangra which is the next project for restoration.
All the vessels give great scope for photographs of industrial subjects, weathered timbers, rusty steel frames, the skeleton of a ship being built, old machinery, steam engines, boilers, city scapes and some old crusty characters who spend their time helping to keep these ships alive for the next generations.
Saturday morning is a normal working day for the fleet and would be a good time to visit.
He also gave me some pics to show the sort of things there...

 Leon,
 What would the meet involve?

I'm thinking in terms of the anniversary weekend ...

Basically the chance to shoot some of the going's on. As I understand it, there are always people doing work on these boats - and some of it is the sort of work you wouldn't normally see these days (some old machinery there).
Anniversary weekend would be an option - I think it would need to be on the Sat morning though from the sounds of it.*** When getting there is half the fun! ***

In view that I am from interstate, 'AW' would be a good timing for me and probably others, but would depend on what else might be happening at the same time. fozzie

OK Folks - talked to my contact at work today, and it looks like we're all go - just need confirmation from Gary of whether he wants this for the A/Weekend or not .
Will have to limit numbers to 10-15, but it's sounding good *** When getting there is half the fun! ***

This would be a fascinating place and a terrific idea for the big week-end meet. I'd be in it, just up to numbers and getting there and stuff for us inter-staters...
 Cheers.Aka Andrew

Look at the start of this thread, I don't think they let you in their workshop at night.Birddog114

I'm interested, AW or not. Perhaps we should give out-of-towners priority for the AW meet, as it's the only chance they're going to do this, then maybe organise a second non-AW Sydney meet? That's assuming demand of course.
