Just thought I'd do this .... because I can.

Intel have announced that Canon will be using their new Thunderbolt interface.

But we have no idea how or where.

I'm waiting now for a Canon presser on this.

For those who are interested, the new MacBook Pros, announced that a couple of weeks ago, have this tech on board (and I took delivery of my new MBP on Monday last) and so, if Canon introduce this on their new lines of cameras and camcorders, then I'm certainly ready for that.

Except that none of my cameras will support it. Oh well .....

Gary, I too received a new MBP last Monday (13"). It seems great except for the sticking "L" on the keyboard. Oh well, you can't have everything!

I have a 13" MBP: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz with 8GB of memory and a 500GB HDD (See: MacBook Pro?. While the 15" might have been better, I wanted the smaller size (for traveling) and couldn't justify the extra expense to bring a 15" up to the same spec.

It works great for Lightroom - which is where I do all my photo processing. I actually have my LR catalog and image files on an external drive connected via FireWire 800 (well, USB 2.0 at the moment until I get the FW port fixed :/ ). I find it plenty fast enough when importing image files and rendering the 1:1 index.

When I'm home I have the MBP connected to a 22" LCD monitor via DVI so the size of the screen is not an issue for the bulk of the time. While traveling I find the monitor is large enough for reviewing photos. It is rare I'd want to do any serious processing of photos while on the road.

I had previously been using a Windows machine and basically moved the external drive from the Windows machine to the MBP. As Mac paths look and work differently to Windows, all I had to do was tell the LR catalog where the photos were now and my catalog came straight across. If need be I could do the reverse to take it back to Windows.

I'm very happy with the MBP (other than the failed FW port, which hopefully will be fixed tomorrow).
