Not quite ...

Although he says he might have one in his hands on Wednesday, he also states that this, as well as his "announcement" of the 55-200 (IIRC) VR, are both official rumours.

So, could somebody please explain to me exactly what makes a rumour official?

Nothing yet from Nikon on any of the rumours, official or otherwise. Nothing as yet on DPR either.

Well this is great news for me if its true.

In the market for a D40, not too keen on the D40x (unless they throw a better kit lens on it), but this will more than likely drop the price on the D40 :D

Gary, it's the same as a Core-Promise and a Non-Core-Promise. Your answer may be with the PM. :)

- No AF

hmmm... now to choose between the D40 and D40x

It will be interesting to see the price difference, and if in fact the D40 drops in price...

It's still not 6pm people.

I'm not sure if anything will happen, but if the rumours are true, then ya'll have around half an hour to kill while wait for Nikon to pull their finger out.

Why not... geeze... I don't know... do some work, maybe?!

SMH posted a review of the D40 today, March 8, just days after its successor was announced...

Here is a pretty good review of the D40x by Popular Photography magazine.

http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/3896/ca ... -d40x.html

Image Quality data from the Pop Photo Lab proved about on par with the D80, the top camera in our 10MP DSLR shootout (February 2007). To wit: Excellent resolution through ISO 3200, stellar noise control (Extremely Low through ISO 400, Very Low through ISO 1600), Excellent color accuracy.

Certainly looks like a winner for Nikon when it comes to entry-level DSLR. Would also make a great walk about camera if one wants more then a P&S.

Cheers,

André
