Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

All the pic needs is the death star hanging ominously in the background, next to a second moon ;)

Gordon, this is a wonderful image. It's one of those that I just keep looking at - the faintly lit surface of the moon is eerie, with a real sci-fi feel about it. Congratulations.

Opportunities for pics like that sometimes go with the job - if I take a few minutes to have a look at the sky in between observing, or in this case, in the middle of closing up the dome and stowing the scope. ;)

this is a beautiful photo and well deserving of photo of the week. I love staring at the moon when it is in this "there but not there" stage, and you have captured it beautifully.
