New Olympus OM-D Announcement

Unless they get too big for themselves, this is where you can talk about the "other" brands of DSLR's: Konica Minolta / Sony, Pentax / Samsung, Olympus, Horseman, etc.

New Olympus OM-D Announcement

Postby photohiker on Wed Jan 18, 2012 2:04 pm

In the spirit of rumors as announcements, Olympus has indicated that it will make an announcement early in February about a new line. Speculation is rife, but it appears that it will be a weather sealed 16MP micro4/3rds camera with integrated EVF styled after the OM series.

More info and rabid speculation in the comments at 43rumors

Also from http://digicame-info.com, reposted on 43rumors:

1) It has an OM look
2) Built-in 1.44 dots integrated viewfinder
3) New in body stabilization and AF system
4) Comes in Black and Silver
5) Weather sealed magnesium body
6) 16 megapixel sensor
7) Width 121mm, weighs 425g
8) Worldwide shipment in late March

Could be a nice upgrade for u43 users, depending on the EVF and Sensor performance... Having, and having used the original OM gear, the purist in me says that OM should be 24x36!

Is it just me, or does the mirrorless segment seem to be accelerating? It's starting to look a bit crowded.

FWIW, I can confirm that Olympus will be holding a launch on February 8. The time and date are set and irrevocable, as it's an international announcement, but it clashes with another event on the same day, and I want to be at both.

Decisions, decisions.

An official invitation arrived in the mail today. Normally, these are just emailed, but this is specially printed for the event.

And features 3 assorted images of an OM-1.

Make of that what you will .....

looking forward to hearing more about this camera...I asked my Olympus rep and his response was that they had all been kept in the dark (as of earlier this week)
