Sydney Christmas Get Together - December 10 2011

Postby gstark on Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:28 pm

Due to popular demand, we'll be having this on Saturday December 10, and at Henley Marine Drive, somewhere between Canada Bay and Drummoyne. I'll sus out an actual location in the next week or so.

Kick off from around 10:30 I guess. Good weather has already been ordered.

All welcome, including family and friends.

Let's all meet at Nield Park, just around from Rodd Point.

The main issue in this area is that none of the parks have much in the way of tables and chairs; I think, in driving from Leichhardt through to Drummoyne, there were about 6 basically suitable areas, with a total of around 6 tables in all.

So, does somebody have a portable table or two they can bring along? And portable chairs?

I have two chairs and a folding table. The variable is the space in my car (granted, it is actually a constant, but the relationship of it to the size of the table is an unknown).

I can bring a table... not so sure about chairs... I think I had some go for a walk.
The weather being the weather it might be worth considering a plan B.
Round the corner (well kinda) is Kendall Bay and Breakfast Point where there is a pub and a couple of parks with gazebo type shelter.
That might be one option... sure to be a few others.

So, what is the low and the down? Is this a photographic event; a luncheon gettogether whereby we each bring our own food/bring food to share/other? If we all bring food, I am happy to see if I can get a BBQ chicken cheaper than WOW's $9.88. :D

Yes, and yes. All of the above.

I'll be making some fresh guacamole and salsa on Friday evening, and I also want to try and get a couple of new tyres for the truck before the weekend, so that I can deal with getting it through rego. The tyres might not happen till early Saturday morning though, hence it rates a mention here.

And the Woolies marketing is very misleading; they say that you'll save $0.12 on that purchase, but if it's the only item in your shopping basket, I can guarantee that you'll not be getting $0.12 change from your $10 note.

Wash your friggin mouth out - saying that a large oligopolistic company would dare mislead.

And, no, I won't be getting it from WOles. If I feel up to it, I may make something interesting to bring along as well.

Wife and issue are likely to come with.

What would BOM know... they would also have us believe this is Summer.

Of course it’s summer  Summer is only a season and the weather does not determine the season - roll on 2012 when it will all cease to matter :biglaugh:

How long do we think this will run?

As I mentioned in another thread we're nursing a sick dog and so if I go out I need to combine activities. I was hoping to go for a dive on Saturday morning (to test the D7000 in housing) and could drop in to the get together on my way home. I'm guessing I'd be passing between 1 and 3pm.

I'll be there although maybe not spot on 10:30.

I'll also have copies of my Antarctica and Argentina photobooks if anyone is interested in having a look at the MyPublisher quality. If anyone is really interested the books are for sale as well at $125 each which is my cost price.

My attendance tomorrow is now contingent on family members (including I) sufficiently recovering from a smorgasboard of illnesses.

Hope to make it as I have just taken delivery of 5 rolls of each of Velvia 50 & Tri-X (400) in 120 format for tomorrow.

If you can be there, great. If not, take care, and keep healthy.

I'll have the V1, and my recently acquired Leica on hand.

It was good to catch up with some familiar (and less familiar) faces. Thanks to those who organised, provided tables, seating and food.

My diagnosis is that the new to me film back I bought recently is faulty. The other back works just fine. I am not exactly sure of the interaction between the back and the shutter, but there are two push-in pins in the back that form part of the connection with the body. I think they may be faulty.

That's partially good, at least the camera is fine and you may be able to fix the pins.

I have the back under warranty so I think it will just be going back for a refund. But, yes, it is good the body and lens(es) appear to still function properly.

And, Gary, the 40mm does have a nice field of view. Many thanks again.
