Lens Terminology

Can someone help me understand lens abbrievations for nikon

ie DX, VR, ED
i think DX means for digital, VR vibration reduction, and ED - has better glass

Any other letters to look out for when looking at lenses

are all nikon lenses compatible with the d70
Which ones are not

thanks for the link Glen
someone once told me that with some lenses the focusing mechanics are driven by the body, and in some its driven within the lens making it bigger
Is this true

AF is driven by the body, AFS driven by a motor in the lens

AFS is faster, quieter. The kit lens 18-70 is AFS. AFS is of most benefit on bigger lenses such as 70-200, 300 2.8, 200-400 f4, 600 f4.
