** New Date: Sydney Harbour Walk - Part 1

PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 6:53 pm
by stubbsy
On Saturday 24th March 2007 I'm organising part 1 of a series of DSLR Users Sydney Harbour walks. Over the next year or so we'll complete a full circle of the harbour on foot armed with our trusty dslrs. A large PDF map of the complete harbour circle walk is HERE and I also have explanatory historical notes on the full walk (I can't find the online version at present)

Part 1 is a walk from Milsons Point ferry wharf to Wollstonecraft railway station. A few of us have already trekked this and it took about 4 hours. Start time is 8:15 am (there is a ferry from Circular Quay at 8:00 or so that arrives at Milsons Point at 8:06).

We'll travel from Milsons Point, past Luna Park and around Lavendar Bay to Blues Point for spectacular views under the harbour bridge towards the opera house. Then on to the leafy Sawmillers Reserve (where there is an interesting derelict ship), around Berrys Bay past HMAS Waterhen and on to Waverton. There is every chance we'll then head on to Ciruclar Quay for lunch and a drink or two.

Note: This is a fairly gentle walk requiring only a moderate level of fitness. the steepest part is DOWN a long flight of steps next to HMAS Waterhen.

Please indicate expressions of interest below.

NOTE: I've had to move this by one week to 24th March

Sounds terrific! I haven't been on forum outings for a while, so I'm keen. What time will we finish (I have an appointment in the evening)?

Cheers
Steffen.

I'll be there if I can get the outlaws to look after the boys
I'll be there if I can't get the outlaws to look after the boys :)
option 1 is the better choice but they can follow along with the mp3 players and stay out of the photos :)

I'll be more happy to join since I am eager to meet some of the forum members who have helped me with photography.

Only problem is on my side since I work nights until 2:30am!! (might have to call in sick)

I don't think I can make Part 1, but if the dates for subsequent walks are suitable, I'd love to come along.

Peter is looking for his lens cap... he knows he lost it somewhere, so is retracing his steps.

Well the first time was really just to scope it out for the real deal and get the timings. Personally I expect I'll enjoy the second visit since I know some things I missed first time through. Future parts of the walk will of course be uncharted territory

I will try and make this, as living in Neutral Bay now and driving buses across through waverton, wollstonecraft, I look forward to exploring the area on foot

Hi,

Is this finalised with the list of people coming and meeting point/place?

Anyone interested in rocking on after the official meet is over, seems like I've got the whole day free, so if anyone is interested maybe a smaller group can head somewhere else afterwards ?

Don't forget to vote.

Such a shame that there's nobody worth voting for.

I'm interested. I'm also spending the day in Sydney, we can play by hear as we go, certainly will need a break somewhere for lunch/beer/drinks.

cheers,

André

I hope we are all ready, gear cleaned, batteries charged and cards formatted. Make sure you wear sensible walking shoes and bring water, a hat and sunscreen. The forecast is for late showers/thunderstorm. Southerly change. Min: 21 Max: 29

Given the weather forecast I think the earlier we start the better so I propose we meet at the ferry wharf at Milson's Point outside Luna Park at 8:15 am (there's a 7:51 ferry from Circular Quay for those using public transport). I plan to finish at 12:00.

My list of attendees is:
Alpha_7
Steffen
Oscar
Yi-P
Firsty
ATJ
trotkiller
Six
radar
Paul
nnnnsic
Trieu
Geoff

Possibles are:

For those concerned about needing to vote, you can choose to vote at Town Hall in the city, no matter what electorate area you are from.

I'm happy to play it by hear, I was going to buy a day tripper, so I can at worst ride a few ferries.. usually plenty of photography opportunities.

Looks like a great turnout! Unfortunately I won't be able to join in as I have a meeting in the city in the morning. I may try to catch up with some of you in the early afternoon though - we'll see how things pan out :)

I know you'll enjoy the walk, as there's some really nice spots along the way. It's quite an eye-opener to get out there and see some of the areas around the harbour, and I look forward to the next instalment!
