Shot this today, don't know weither to go full B&W or leave the tint of red in the wisky + hair.

Also hard deciding between high and low contrast versions.

Client wanted a more menacing look

Kenny, I think the 2nd higher contrast image looks best. I'd drop the red bottle and hair tint and just make it all b&W though.

Cheers

I prefer the low contrast image, more menacing? Hmm...perhaps add a bit of noise? Nice effect I thought.

Might a closer crop work? The shadows on the wall behind are a bit distracting, they're not menacing enough and look a bit accidental. Closer crop on subject may help this a bit, particularly above his head. Perhaps a landscape crop from above the head to just below the tat?

Great shot though, and I agree that a bit of noise/grain may add to the mood.

Maybe some liquify filter to bring out the bicep?

Edit: I've done a quick and dirty PP. If you'd like me to remove this, please let me know.

Kenny - I prefer the first shot, but with the crop shown in the last post..... I would also prefer the red in the hair, but not in the whisky bottle. Made me think he was drinking petrol :?:

If you want the red, I'd go all or nothing (although I suspect nothing will be better ). Stronger, more deliberate reds, or a real B&W.

or maybe pull him off the bkgd... removing the shadow and drop him into a really eerily shot scene (infared landscape?)

G'day

Maybe I'm too much of a landscape type but for me the cropping away of part of the guitar seems to catch me out. My eyes keep getting drawn to the right hand edge wondering where the rest of the guitar is.

I prefer the more grainy versions of the pic and just b/w works best.

Thank god we're all different.

I'd paste in a Gibson SG for starters. Then I'd paste the roadwarrior's face on his.

I hope he likes it, but I sort of chuckle at this fellow trying to look menacing. I think you either have it or you don't.

Those shadows on the wall are sort of hurting it, not sure what you can do about that. I also think that straight black and white is better, but that's my opinion without exception for cutouts.

Definitely go with the crop version I would also think that a little more eye contact i.e. turning toward the camera a tad more. I also think playing with low key lighting and just splashes of light across key areas of the face and say the tat as well. To at least try to get him to look a little more threatening/broody

Kenny,

Regardless of what you go with, it's a great photo! Well done. Personally I prefer no. 1 you posted.
