While walking to the beach in Noosa two weeks ago, I saw this scene and I couldn’t help myself from taking a photo. The scene reminded me of one of those Edward Hopper’s paintings where people are observing the world going by, and maybe enjoying a moment of serenity and solitude.

The word rhinoceros comes from the Greek “nose-horned”. This magnificent animal is considered endangered because of its horn, which is in huge demand in China and Vietnam where it is used in traditional Chinese medicine. The rhino horns are made of keratin, the same material as hair and fingernails, and there is no scientific evidence of any health benefits.

While walking along Hastings Street in Noosa last Sunday, I stopped to rest in front of this shop and noticed the reflections in its shop window. I asked myself how much of what we see and understand is real or a combination of imagery, thoughts, and opinions reflected in our minds.

These cascades are in the Prince Regent River in the remote area of the Kimberly in Western Australia. The river was named in 1820 by the first European to find the river, the Rear Admiral Phillip Parker King, who was an early explorer of the Australian and Patagonian coasts. Philip Parker King and the crew of Mermaid named the river after the Hanoverian prince, King George IV, who was shortly to succeed his father to the English throne.

While walking the streets of Lyon (France) our guide opened a street door and asked us all to go in. It was the door of a passage connecting tenement buildings and two streets. Along the passageway there were stairs leading to the upper levels of the buildings where people lived in apartments, and in the stairs there were signs saying: Thanks for not going up, Private Property. I hope you like it.

Staying with friends, I noticed these colourful glasses in their liqueur trolley. I just couldn’t help myself. I love the various shapes and the thoughtful arrangement of colours and shapes. I hope you like it.

The Adelaide Oval is a temple for people, especially for those that love sport. The venue is predominantly used for cricket and Australian Rules Football, but has also played host to rugby league, rugby union, soccer, tennis among other sports as well as regularly being used to hold concerts. I hope you like it.

This is the third stained glass window in this little, but charming church. It represents one of the Stations of the Cross. The first and original stained glass windows dated from the 15th century when the church was finally finished. But some windows exploded during the war in 1940 and they had to be replaced. In 1973, a tornado destroyed the spire which collapsed destroying the roof and windows. So this is a modern stained glass window in a church which construction started in 1220. Happy Easter!

This is a bronze reproduction at the d'Arenberg Cube in South Australia. The original sculpture is in Paris and represents Venus, the goddess of beauty, and Dali adds a soft watch, an egg, two ants and a separation of the body into two parts. It’s meant to represent the ephemeral beauty of the body and the eternal beauty of art. The ants represent the lack of importance and human mortality. The egg represents renewal, the promise of the future and it is also a symbol of fragility with a hard exterior and a soft interior.

Monet lived and painted for 43 years in Giverny, France. He was inspired by his gardens, and spent years transforming them, planting thousands of flowers. But the picture today is of his living room. I imagine Monet at the cocktail hour enjoying his art collection.
