griffgear?

Postby mickeyjuice on Sat Jul 19, 2008 11:12 am

Anyone used any of this? I was at a job a couple of days ago and a snapper I hadn't met from the Age or the HS was there and was using the Ringtail, and he was very happy with it.

Finally found their website (http://www.griffgear.com/pages/bags-harness.htm), and it's fair to say it's atrocious - impossible to tell anything about any of the products.

Anyone got any info on them?

I've been looking at the ThinkTank (http://www.thinktankphoto.com/) & Kinesis (http://kgear.com/) range of belts for a while - I was all set to order a set from ThinkTank and they deleted the set I wanted to buy! And then didn't reply to email asking about it. Not a positive sign.

Ta.

Griffgear is excellent.

Only way to describe it really.

I've got a long lens cover and short lens cover. Rob, who owns the company made both to custom sizes to fits my gear and didn't charge anything extra. He even hand delivered them out to Eastern Creek for the V8's for me. His carrying gear, like the Ringtail is superb.

He is a photographer, so knows what needs to be done and what gear needs to do. He recently won the contract to supply all carrying gear and wet weather gear for channell seven for the olympics.

I recommend any of his gear.
2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

I have previously contacted him to ask a couple of questions about his products, and received a prompt, helpful and courteous reply. In the end I didn't go through with the purchase, but the albeit brief contact left me with a favourable impression and if in the future I decided that their product would work for me, I would have no hesitation in giving them a go.

ETA: I agree the website is somewhat less than comprehensive, however.

Great to know, thanks guys.

Any idea where I could get a look at the gear properly? You can't tell jack from the website.

I also recommend Griffgear.
He is a good guy and makes good quality products at reasonable prices.

Not that it's much help to you, but if you asked him, he would let you come round to his house and have a looksee, but Geelong to Sydney is a bit far....

Maybe I should go up there, take some shots and build him a decent site :-)

Yeah, his website needs some work, but his gear is good stuff.

the griff bags are great, he designed a new one, not sure if he is still making it, i know i purchased the last khaki one but here it is. Its called the Rock Wallaby

"the bag can hold the same amount as a large bum bag. in the main compartment you could have two small lenses side by side or say a lens a and a flash est.. you can fit camera batteries in the front zipper pouch and 1.4 or 2 x extender in the side pocket. there is also a phone pocket a water bottle pocket a a paper work zipper pocket and a few little pocket sleeves for say a bottle of sun block and last a top pocket for CF cards or small flash batteries. there are note book pockets as well as pen holders."

Thanks for that. Not sure it's going to fit with my setup now - I've just nabbed a ThinkTank 360Rotation off eBay - but the images and info are terrific.
