Discount Digital Photographics

Anyone had experience with this mob?. Not sure how many weeks they have been in business. :D . Prices look very competitive, for lenses anyway, especially if you can claim GST back. Grey market (of course) so I suppose warranty is always going to be an issue.

I've heard mixed reviews, but my one experience was mostly positive.

It's run literally out of a guy's unit in North Sydney, I dropped in and bought a Nikkor 50/1.8 with no real problems at all.

Also thought of buying from them. Email correspondence was friendly and response prompt. They are parallel importers, and I think they source their gear from the US. They acknowledge that Maxwell's will not honour warranty, and apparently take care of 1-year warranty issues through their own network of repairers. They will pay for postage on the condition that it is a manufacturer's fault. Their ebay reputation seems excellent.

Curious to hear what the mixed reviews were ? I've dealt with these guys for lenses and a body and the service was amazingly quick and faultless .

I've bought from them on numerous occasions, actually most of my gear is from them. I've both picked-up and had stuff posted out without incident. Prices are very good, you don't have to worry about being hit with customs duty and GST. Actually the Sigma 10-20mm I just got from them is the best price I've seen anywhere.

A friend of mine bought a D50 + lenses through them. They were extremely prompt with email and shipping. I was surprised how fast and painless the process was.

I bought a sb800 from them before becoming a member of this forum. Had no problems from them whatsoever. The GST component was written off regards to an overseas trip which made it an exceptionally good price. I do wonder how he is able to do so of course.

Guys,

Have had excellent experience with them, bought a NIKON S1 compact from them and a 17-55mm DX lens (all about 1 year ago).

Absolutely no problems. Great and prompt service.

However, had a friend who ordered a Canon 17-40 L through them, she was not that happy with their service, they couldn't guarantee when the lens would arrive etc... The product was v. good when it arrived, but she had trouble getting answers from them as to when.

Another thing to note, if you can buy from them directly do so, do not use EBAY. Reason is the price is slightly less doing it this way.

This is a heads up for Glenn and his team at d-d-photographics.

http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/index.htm

Yes - they can be a little hard to get a hold of, but I think this is mainly as a result of their success. They are busy - and it is little wonder why.

I had pained over a major photographic purchase for at least 4 months.
I did the right thing by the Australian Supplier and placed my name on a number of retailers waiting lists, all the while carefully scanning the ebay pages and saving the pennies as old man time ticked away towards the deadline of an overseas trip.

I could wait no longer, and despite having to wave the email hand in the air a fair bit initially, as well as a couple of phone calls to jumpstart the process I finally organised a deal with Glenn at d-d-photographics.

Once personal contact was made the purchasing process was flawless.
We reached an arrangment at 11.30am on Thurday 25/05/06, I organised payment and forwarded proof of same by 3.00pm, and by 1.30pm on Friday 26/05/06 the goods were in my hand, well packaged and exactly as ordered.

Now that is service.
It is with pleasure that I endorse such professionalism, and I will not hesitate in doing business with them again.
D300, D200, (D70 - now with daughter) and heaps of Nikon stuff.

I have had great service from him.
Bought L lenses from him, and got him to throw free Hoya UV filters in for the price he quoted via email. As listed email/phone prices are cheaper than his Ebay prices. I have sent many people to buy from him, and everybody has good reports.
I know he gets his products from the US, but tries to keep most commonly ordered items in stock.
Be warned, he is a South African.....say no more... :?

I agree Marty, Glen seems like a straight forward guy.

I picked up my 50mm f1.4 with a filter and mentioned your name and he gave me a discount  just enough to get me a cheeseburger meal but I was happy.

Love walking away thinking I got a good deal, but I gotta say prices are very very good as advertised.

Woops - Nikkor 50mm 1.4D. Originally there was no choice between the 1.4 and 1.8 because the 1.4 was just too expensive but when I found these guys I reconsidered ($399 vs around $500 elsewhere).

Speaking of DDP, they have the D200 advertised for $2,399 and underneath it a 'Jap' Version for $2,239. About $160 difference. What is a Jap version and what is the difference?

I saw that distinction too on the site. Surely it couldn't mean the menu is in Japanese? :D :D

There must be a market for them. Lots of schools are providing Japanese as a subject. It's a hard way to earn a discount.

When I was investigating the pricing of the Sigma 180mm macro I had two choices: from HKSupplies or d-d-digital. Now one would suppose that the HK connection would have been cheaper than d-d-digital. Well it was - by $20.00

So, would you buy from HK for $20 cheaper and risk GST or buy from d-d-digital and get a tax invoice to boot

Buy directly from him is cheaper than going thru his ebay store.

I bought the D80, a lens and some accessories from D-D-Photographics and was very pleased with the service and price. Picked up the parts from North Sydney to save delivery charges...

Wasn't too impressed when my lens dropped over $100 just two days after my purchase but what can you do. I am sure Glenn will make up for it...

Beforehand I visited ECS who didn't have stock (even though their web page implied it). The guy at ECS took down my details but hasn't called me to this date - over a month later.
