Wow - this is exciting (no - I’m not going there). I was beginning to think that no one could come up with a real challenge, you backroom boys have done well.

OK let’s get started - go to Woollies - buy 1,000 eggs - buy new CF card - buy heat lamp - get hatching

Yep.

And even someone ducking an egg, as long as the egg is " the obvious, primary, identifiable and dominant element" and is "of natural extraction".

For those who are interested, the members involved in choosing this subject have a discussion thread that extends over 15 pages, discussing alternate subjects, possible interpretations, rule changes, and the like.

It's been quit5e eggscruciating to finally get it to this point, and we're really eggstatic to finally get this topic beaten. :)

Same as before.

You get to make and submit up to two images. One image may be made and submitted within each of the two stated eligibility periods. Each image gets assessed separately and anonymously, and each image is equally able to win first prize.

Or not. :)

If you've registered for a prior challenge, then sure as eggs you're already cookin' for this one.

If not, you need to send an unscrambled message to Scott (MHD) with your username here, and he will get crackin' for ya.

In the interim, you can stop yolkin' around, get ova any hangups you might have with the subject, and get white into it!

I shouldn't have asked

I suspect this theme was chosen becuase of the numerous puns available :D. The 15 page thread was just all of you cooking up ( ) a comprehensive list so that you could out-do everyone else .

No-one will poach my pun!

Edit: I will ask again though about PP images. Are there any rules against spot editing a la DPChallenge, or is it anything goes as long as the original image is one frame (ie not copying elements from one inage into another).

Excellent challenge and I'm going to avoid all the egg puns, but I did want to ask, why isn't a thunder egg a natural egg ? Should the definition maybe, be "organic egg" perhaps if you are excluding thunder eggs ?

It is. But it's not from an animal source.

It's a point that we considered, discussed, and wanted excluded. Likewise chocolate eggs. The microphotography exclusion is to remove such things as an ova. Yes, ova is out!

I thought about organic in suggesting the wording, but that would possibly have included chocolate. Note too that the wording says of "natural extraction" which I'm suggesting is perhaps different from just "natural".

Regardless, the wording is spefific in that it states that the egg "must be from an animal source of some kind". If you can produce a thunder egg that is of natural extraction from some sort of animal source, more power to you.

But being a thunder egg, it will still be excluded. :)

Not a stupid question.

More than one egg is fine, but that's where your compositional skills come into play. Only one egg must be the the obvious, primary, identifiable and dominant element.

DoF, selective focus, lighting, whatever ... Salmon roe sushi is a possibility, but you'd need to do some work to make it comply. :)

Not for the animal, Tim.

A thought comes to mind - one we didn't discuss in formulating this theme: Wendell is at a severe disadvantage in this challenge. Probably even with a thunder egg. :)

The disturbing thing for me about all of these egg puns is that I actually have to use them later on in the year as they're written in for me to speak when I play Humpty Dumpty.

I'm not kidding either.

No. The submissions site opens from June 16. You'll still have a couple of weeks (I think) to lodge your image for the first section.

Because I can't help myself, I went to the thesaurus.

There are several synonyms for egg, but one that stood out, an oldie but a goodie....

cackleberry

Happy with that.

Here is one I took circa 1979 with my trusty old Olympus OM1.

I called in "Morning". Life was more rock and roll back then.
