I'm baaaa-aa-ack

Postby gstark on Tue Jan 10, 2006 8:43 am

Happy New Year to all of our members.

Lindy and I had a great time on the US west coast, avoiding floods in the Napa Valley, checking out expensive real estate in the Monterey peninsular, looking for cheap stuff in Tijuana, eating great food (mostly, but don't ask about the so-called Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica), taking in museums in Balboa Park and of course the Getty in LA, and generally just relaxing and enjoying a few days together.

We thoroughly enjoyed teasing the vendors along San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf area who desperately wanted to try to sell me some Sigma glass, and they seemed somewhat disappointed when, having told me the price was "Three ninety nine" I countered with a "$3.99? Still too much!".

Oh .. such fun!

And on our first night there too. Jetlag? What's that?

As we move into the new year here, we're going to be looking at a few changes ... priorities include trying to solve the ongoing hosting issues that we have, and looking at a way to institute sub forums, so that we can perhaps simplify the front page just a little.

And of course we'll be having more of the same: minimeets, specials, night shoots, and genreally just looking for ways to help y'all improve your photographic skills, all as we all just get together and get to become even more closely knit as friends, as well as members here.

Nice to hear you are back, safe and sound Gary.

When i heard about the floods in Napa Valley, i immediately thought of you and wondered if you had been caught up in it.

Welcome back Gary - you'll be pleased to find out there were no 'server issues' while you were gone this time! ;)

Gee you're a tough crowd. Hasn't Leigh outlived that minor accident by now. I'd be more worried about what state the house was in when Gary got home since he was entertaining while Gary was away.

Actually, it was better than Dad left it.

Yes yes, I know it's still off topic.
But I can vouch that the house was tidier a few days after Sir Gary had left and Leigh had cleaned the place up for his hairem. :D :D :D

They really are amazing from my experience there in June last year. I went looking for a Grad ND Filter before heading off to Yosimite. No luck downtown so I tried some of the very dodgy looking shops at Fishermans... wow. They didn't have any in stock, and for most of them I ended up explaining what a Grad ND was anyway (never heard of one of those!)

Welcome back!
