How powerful is photography?

Postby gstark on Sat Mar 07, 2020 9:53 am

This story caught my eye this morning.

It's left me speechless with the power and the beauty of the backstory and the images, and the underlying simplicity implicit in what's there.

I hope that you get as much from this as I have.

Thoroughly enjoyable read Gary. Hits home fairly hard too, as Robyn and I am going through that particular stage of life where we are caring for our respective dads (both who are firmly entrenched in the world of dementia. Actually it's my step-dad. My father died at the age of 38.)

Aging is confronting. The photos in this article are great. Funnily enough it's Robyn's dad's 90th birthday next week, and just yesterday I sent off a file to the printers of a commemorative family book to be presented to him on the day.

Trust you're well in sunny Sydney.

When he was 38? I was 7 when I lost my dad; he was in his early 40s.

Mum turned 93 in January, and while the mind is still good, we are seeing a gradual deterioration in her condition.

And yes, that is very confronting.

I suspect that's a part of why this series resonated so much with me; there's a connection that's perhaps difficult to properly acknowledge.

But otherwise, all good here in bootiful downtown Bondi. Still spending my daze working for the man ...

Yes he was 38yo. 1965. He would have also been 93 this year.

Do they still have the Bondi icebergs, and if so, are you one of them? :biglaugh:

Unfortunately, I can't read it. I tried several times but it asks for a subscription.

Just close the interstital.

There's a down arrow on the right that will push it out of the way.
