Postby Matt. K on Fri Jun 06, 2014 12:02 pm

Forum members and anyone who visits the forum....we are proposing an afternoon shoot and then dinner on Saturday, the 28th June. Meet up at the rear of the Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour around 2:30 or 3PM, (Great city views). Dinner venue yet to be established but not likely to be Tetsuyas. Not necessary to répondez s'il vous plait, (RSVP) but if you are sure that you can make it then please add your name to this post. Great opportunity to meet new people and exchange ideas.
Bring:
1. a camera
2. a tripod
3. some money for dinner
4. anything you want to show me
Regards

Tempting. And I may even be able to make it.
Bit surprised you say to bring a camera, but not lenses. Are you supplying those?

I was expecting Matt to be supplying lenses...I was going to just bringing a camera body (I hope he has something in Nikon 1, M43 or K mount)

A day too early for me. I am visiting Sydney with the family (for the first time in 20 years) from 29th.

We could stay till just after midnight? :)

Or perhaps move the date back one day.?

Either way, we're in.

Please don't go changing the date on my account. It would be great to meet and greet some of the Sydney people.....but there is no guarantee that I would be able to make it, we arrive Sydney approx 2pm on the 29th so timing would be tight after getting to hotel, checking in etc. I don't think running off and leaving the family behind as soon as we arrived would go down too well!

Ok, no worries.

Thanks.

Why not still try to arrange something while you're in town?

T'would like to come but alas I will be recovering from a hernia operation earlier in the week, and I can't afford to lift a massive Nikon V1 at that time... :D

Will do. I am planning on a week at home learning how to drive Lightroom, which I have never used before.

Thanks Murray. I shall have a squiz. I've had LR since earlier in the year on the Adobe $9.99 month subscription, along with PS CC. I'm comfortable with PS, but LR needs to be learned. Cheers.

I predict that when you get the hang of Lightroom you won't be using Photoshop very much.

I agree with Murray.
LR lacks the power of PS for detailed manipulation, especially where you might need layers (Panoramas anyone?). But in pretty much every other way it is at least its equal. In some ways it is vastly superior.
And the learning curve is MUCH gentler.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I have found Martin Evening's book on LR very good. Murray has also used it. I initially borrowed his LR3 copy and now own my own LR5 edition.

If only i lived closer by sydney.....

Have to add my part to the lightroom comments.....

I love Lightroom and Adobe CC, I use Lightroom 80% of the time and often take a few of my favourite images over to CC to touch up in a little more detail. I love both but have a deeper knowledge of LR which have a lot of great aspects even I'm yet to explore. Yet I find certain aspects of CC critical to editing especially if you have a Pylon in the middle of your images :rotfl2:

Lots of great tutorials and web pages about both lightroom and CC, I highly recommend you set apart a good period of time to not just look at them but to put each tutorial and tip into practice....thats the fun part!! Good luck with the hernia ozi.

Hospital rang this afternoon. Operation is postponed indefinitely, so a visit to old Sydney town may be a possibility after all. As Moe used to say, we shall see.

Sorry but have to proffer an apology for a no show tomorrow. I will indeed be in the Big Smoke, but only long enough to board a Boeing bound for Tassie for a few days. I shall have to substitute Sydney fare for King Island produce etc etc. :D

You would forego a forum meet and dinner just to go fly to Tasmania? Have you no sense of perspective? :nono: :nono: :nono:

The way things are going I might be the only attendee. What's the old saying?, "An Englishman, even when he is alone, forms an orderly queue of one". :D :D :D
I'm not an Englishman so the queue may be a little shabby, but be there I will. Hope you can make the next one.
