Basic workflow info?

Postby muzz on Tue Feb 23, 2010 4:02 pm

I'm just wondering if anyone can direct me to a basic workflow resource that can give an overview of "good practices" or principles when processing digital files.

In particular I'm looking at where in the workflow noise should be dealt with - is it the first thing to sort out, or after any straightening or cropping, or can it be necessary to perform it more than once in a workflow? I have some ISO 1600/3200 files to sort out and I want to get them as clean as possible (they'll never be fine art pieces).

I'm interested too in other manipulations such as curves, levels, saturation, contrast etc - is there a "best" order in which to apply them (in principal if we're talking global changes rather than localised changes).

I've just upgraded to Aperture 3 but I have Photoshop CS2 and currently running a demo of Nik software. The brushes in Aperture 3 have made so much possible that I was starting to use PS for so I'm not sure how much I'll be using it for a while.
