Have I overdone it?

Just practicing, it isn't a great shot to begin with, but I wouldn't mind some pointers.

Yes.

The clouds are now purple and the water looks un-natural. What exactly have you done in PP?

Are you shooting in RAW or JPEG? If RAW I would suggest just shifting up the exposure and colour saturation as the original looks under exposed.

I think it's overdone too.

Also, look at the crop: consider cropping just above the primary line of clouds; there's nothing of interest above them. That area of sky is not earning its keep in this image. :)

In agreement with others, it's quite overdone, could play with the curves a bit instead of saturation or hue, or whatever that made things purple.

tsanglabs: I love your avatar!

It was shot in jpeg (I know I know...), I probably should have waited for the cloud cover to clear over the far end of the beach.

I really need to get my head around the curves thingamabob. At the moment I seem to be really good at making my shots psychedelic when ever I go near the damn thing. I've got a few tutorials bookmarked...I suppose I have some reading to do...

My first impression is that it looks a bit artificial. For me the original looks better.
