Film from overseas

Postby Reschsmooth on Thu May 31, 2007 3:34 pm

Has anyone bought film from overseas suppliers (notably via ebay)? Any issues to be mindful of?

Thanks

Patrick

I see

Ok, assuming expiry is well into the future, are there any known or suspected issues one must consider compared to buying locally? Y'see, there are HK/Chinese ebay vendors who seem to sell some film relatively cheap, with expiry dates in the future.

Cheers

As long as they're expired and not being kept in a hot humid place, they should be fine...

Are you buying colour neg, slides or BW?

Thanks Yip - I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious like customs x-rays or something can screw up the film.

I am looking for B&W negs for 35mm & 120, maybe some colour slide film as well.

It's actually pretty good advice. Expired film is usually less expensive and provided it's been kept in a cool environment, it's generally fine.

I've got expired film in our fridge of both black & white and colour.

I believe that films under ASA (ISO) 800 will be just fine under normal x-ray scans. Will be more worried about them if they are 1600 or 3200 films... I travelled few times with 100 and 400 films, didnt notice anything in the end results. I can't prove its 100% correct, but they should be safe for x-ray...

If you are bulk buying them, maybe we can share the shipping or something... I'm after couple of BW and probably colour slides as well.

Not a problem - at this stage, I was looking at a couple of ebay vendors who had reasonably priced, within expiry dated films. I will let you know when I am going to place an order.

There's another guy in Australia (Vic) who I have bought film off before and he seems to have a fair bit, so we can perhaps arrange a bulk order. I will PM you when I am about to order?
