POTW 26 Apr-2016

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW 26 Apr-2016

Postby Matt. K on Mon Apr 25, 2016 11:02 pm

A fine land/waterscape takes the silver this week. A beautiful image skillfully carved out of reality and pasted onto an imaging chip in a camera so that we can all appreciate the beauty of our planet. Well done TonyT. They don't get much better than this. I'm glad that you framed the main subject almost dead center of the image and didn't mess about with that rule of thirds rubbish.....because almost dead center works perfectly here. And you broke another rule of composition.....you presented us with an empty foreground which is almost certainly going to weaken your composition 99% of the time.....but not here. It's the reflection that rescues the composition from that flaw. And those little dabs of yellow on the left hand side tie the subject to the background so sensitively that we almost don't notice. Well I do.
This image would have great value in a masterclass on composition.
