Postby gstark on Wed Feb 09, 2005 5:04 pm

We now have not just two, but five - count 'em - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 moderators here.

Many thanx to Geoff, Glen, and Greg for agreeing to assist Leigh and me in managing this forum for you, and comissera - I mean congratulations to you for earning the respect of the user base (and in particular, the respect of Leigh and myself) here.

They've each agreed to undergo the essential three month long moderators' boot camp, and will be getting a doubling of their salary in recognition of their fine efforts.

In all seriousness, I know you'll all join me in welcoming them as an important and valuable addition to our resources here, and I sincerely hope that the moderator workload remains as low as it has been over the first six months of this forum's existence, due entirely to the mature and professional way that you, our user base, conduct yourselves here.

And yes, I did mention that we're now 6 months old. Champers at Birddog's this Saturday!

Woohoo! Bribes! And with a stamp! Yeeeehawwwwwww...

You do realise, however, that with the position of moderator... people respect you... less... and you have to deal with some people who can be less than... pleasant.

That said, we've only had a few so far... :)

Looking forward to you moderating me Geoff, Greg and Glen.

Hmmm... I see a pattern here. Geoff, Greg, Glen, Gary, Leigh. Who's the odd one out? :D

Have you ever had to delete posts that were offensive? I haven't ever seen any myself...

I have deleted posts before and I'll probably have to do it again.

I have wanted to delete posts that weren't funny, but none were on this forum...

I do stand by the opinion that it's not my place to tell people what's funny or not... this post on the other forum no one found funny... in fact, you'd have to be on crack, e, heroin, pot, the worst alcohol known to man, and be missing several key body parts (like the head) to find funny.

But if a thread and / or posts from a user are deemed by myself or another moderator / admin to be offensive, I will take action against that user's posts and / or the user.

We had one individual who camne on very aggressively in his very first post. I sent this person a gentle PM asking that the attitude be toned down a notch or two, and recieved quite a vitriolic response.

Clearly an individual with a chip on both shoulders, the maturity of a three day old bull terrier and the intelligence of a bus ticket.

I certainly didn't want that type of individual around here, so it was with a sad heart that this person, along with their email address and static IP, were banned.

Do you often want to delete posts that aren't funny?

Being funny isn't a criteria. Otherwise, my post count would be around 10.

Great to see the load spreading! Well done to the new G's for both earning the right and volunteering to take on the role.

I have very much appreciated the efforts of Gary and Leigh in this regard - thanks guys, and to the resounding majority of members lets keep the job nice and easy for the Famous Five.

Cheers,

Thanx guys, I am really honoured to be part of the 'team' and hope to do whatever I can to improve/serve all the quality forum members here on the d70users forum. I am personally very addicted to this and it's now become a ritual to check for new msgs when I get up, when I get home from work, and before bed...then other random times...but I'm always here to help whenever I can! :). Having said that, Bel and I are off to Avoca Beach for 4 days now hopefully to relax *AND* take some photos...maybe from a different perspective, who knows? :) ANyway, better sign off now...

Thanks Gary and Leigh, this is a great place you have created, and I am very pleased to be part of it, and happy with the opportunity to make a further contribution. I don't expect too much action in the new role.

Like Geoff, I'm also going to be away. Rosanne and I are heading off to Merimbula for a week on Saturday, probably get back on Tuesday 22nd.

I can't wait to have some time to take some photos, and some places to take them.

cheers

I've just done some rank surgery to the new mods... and I now knight you... or at least issue you you the new rank... of "Moderator"... so if you never got to be a "Senior Member," a "Really Senior Member," an "Almost Dead Member," a "Six-Feet-Under Member," or even a "Transcended Member"... too bad... you're now a "Moderator."
