Flash in low light situation

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Flash in low light situation

Here's the scenario:

When i tried to take group photos at a rave/club party, my auto focus keep on adjusting because it cannot capture the subject properly. Is there a way i can adjust my camera so it can AF much faster with flash?

Your best bet under these situations is to focus manually.

If you have an external flash (SB800/600) the built in AF assist works very well in these situations. The flash helps too :)

Yes, the IR lights on the external flash units help tremendously with focusing.
