24-120VR + Which TC would be best suited ?

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. 24-120VR + Which TC would be best suited ?

Postby Catcha on Thu Jun 23, 2005 1:13 am

This is just a curious question, If i wanted in the future to get more focal Zoom and TC would it be a good choice. I have read heaps about TC on 70-200VR but none on the 24-120 ? is there a reason for this ?

Out of the 3
TC-14E II
TC-17E II
TC-20E II

which is suited the best to the 24-120VR looking at price it's all pretty much a whisker of a difference in price.

opinons vews and objections are welcome, I just wanna learn :D

I really don't think there'd be much point. The TCs cost around $500, with a TC17E II you get 40-200 plus lose a stop and a half (IIRC?). The 24-120 VR is hardly a fast lens at the best of times; surely you're much better off with a 2nd hand 80-200 2.8 (in fact, I suspect there might be one for sale soon ;)), they go 2nd hand for slightly more than the TC alone, and will be much faster...

No Nikon TC will work on this lens.
Other brand of TCs may be will do but what do you expect to get from this combo?
- Disappointing
- Your emptied wallet.

Catcha, I am with the guys above, TC always must degrade quality and take f stops, good used lenses are readily available for a reasonable price in the resulting range, buy a s/h 80-200 2.8 and you will enjoy f2.8 at 200 rather than f6 or 7.

Trent, VR in your future? :D
