Competition - EPSON Photo Excellence Awards

Postby Nnnnsic on Sun Aug 15, 2004 10:00 am

Epson have announced a photo competition with sections for entrants over 18 and under 18.

As quoted from the Epson competition sites:
EPSON Australia is pleased to announce a new Australian Photographic Competition, the EPSON Photo Excellence Awards. Entrants can submit up to six (6) digital photo images for their chance to win a fantastic new EPSON Photo Printer and Scanner bundle.

The competition will be judged by world famous Australian Photographer, Grenville Turner.

Capture the essence of Australia within the following two categories and enter for your chance to WIN!

Categories

1. Australian Landscape – Capture the essence of the Australian Landscape.
2. Australian Nature – Explore the inner beauty of Australia.

The prizes for both 1st and 2nd in both the over 18's and under 18's include Epson printers and scanners.
This seems like an excellent reason for getting that D70 off of the desk or shelf and having some fun.
Also, it with the under 18's category, if you have children, this could be a great way to teach your kids how to use an SLR if they don't already know how. :)

Nnnnsic, will they check my age if I enter the under 18 section  ?
Not that it would help.

Just a thought Why don't we have a photo of the month at the top of the forum, or the entrance to the forum? Whatever will take the least bandwidth. Something small like 100-300kb and people would have to enter the photo in reduced size. Could be a monthly contest to keep us all interested. We could display the entries in somewhere like a yahoo club so no cost or bandwidth required. What does everyone think?

Nice idea - from its humble beginnings, this D70users' forums could become quite a online resource. :)

But for the Epson comp - I don't exactly get the diff between the categories, I sorta thought nature was kinda outward beauty, not inner beauty. How does one portray inner beauty?

Okay, lemme try and tackle this one from a cynical art student's perspective...

Landscape equals landscape. I imagine landscape, while they show an image of Ayers Rock, could also be urban landscape... things like the Harbour Bridge, skylines, etc... anything you feel that will "capture the essence of the Australian Landscape." (Damn you Epson... what a cliche'd line...)

And Nature is... well... nature. Living stuff. Fish, trees, kookaburras, cockatoos, wombats, roadkill... well... maybe not that one.

Photo of the month

Postby Killakoala on Tue Aug 17, 2004 9:47 pm

I like the idea of the Photo Of The Month. We should start right away. How about we decide on a topic and then see if we can come up with something for that month.

I suggest we start with the obvious 'Sydney' cliche this month. :)

Or how about 'A Photo Of The Inner Beauty Of Sydney' and see if you can actually find it. I suspect it's under Bondi somewhere.

Whad'ya reckon?

Ray have a look at the Koala's pic under custom curves. No wonder he picked Syd as a topic, his image is fantastic!

Postby Killakoala on Wed Aug 18, 2004 6:21 pm

Ooops, i forgot that some people live outside of Sydney.

Oh well, how about we make it something about, err, Australia.... or water shots, maybe a beach or river or a glass of water. Or how about an Abstract with an Australian theme.......

Seeing as how most of us do live in Sydney, how about ...

Melbourne!

Just kidding.

But what about faces ??

Old faces ... young faces ... ugly faces ... handsome faces ...

Dog or cat faces ...

Clock faces ...
