Aon Photographer's Insurance..

Postby beetleboy on Thu Dec 14, 2006 5:45 pm

I know this has come up a few times recently so people may like to know I've just taken out a "Cameraman's" policy with Aon (underwritten by Vero Aus).

I spent a LONG time researching available products and this one was the best for my needs by a long shot - and very reasonably priced.

I'm off to Africa tomorrow and for only approx $150 more than the Australia/New Zealand policy I could get my gear covered worldwide (annually). Very important to me as I do a lot of travelling and some of the other policies only provided cover while the equipment was in your premises. This will cover me if I'm standing in the middle of the Okavango Delta and a rhino bumps my camera out of my hand!

They can also provide Public Liability (for you pro's out there) which I'll be checking out on my return.

I contacted Vesna on that page and she was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Tell her Liam West sent you and you'll receive no better treatment than anyone else

Thanks for that Liam,

also have a great trip to Africa. If you are going to the Okavango Delta, you'll love it. I was there last year in Sept., wonderful place.

I'm just a hobbyist and I got it because I wanted to make sure all my gear was covered.

Note that with your content insurance, you may be able to cover it.

I posted earlier my experience with Allianz. I have my camera gear specified and that covers the gear of anywhere in Aus/NZ in/out of the house. This if for any lenght of time.

When overseas, I have the same coverage but only for 35 days. It is pretty reasonable for my gear. The deductible is $100. I put in a claim when I broke my D70s, they were very helpful and paid up for a replacement really quickly.

Now I understand why some people list their gear in their signature :) So it's easier when it comes to listing for insurance.
I recently acquired a safe to store my gear, but still would like to get some insurance.
Will check out this Aon :) thanks!

FWIW, I recently had to claim through AON for some stolen gear whilst on location. They were very helpful, and even expedited a replacement cheque when they sent it in my company name instead of my name.

Big thumbs up for the AON insurance. I hope I never have to claim again though

Make sure you keep all your receipts for all your equipment you have covered..... even down to memory cards if need be.

surely there are better ways to test out AON insurance ^^:P

but yes, AON insurance.. do you have to call them to arrange for cover? and is there an option for a once-a-year payment with flexibility to change whats covered? (or am i asking questions that i should call up and ask?)

just that the phone's gone kaput here :(

I reckon I've changed the contents of my cover about 3 times this year; I apologies to Vesna each time

As long as you don't exceed a threshold, generally it doesn't cost anything. The last time though, I had to pay a pro-rata premium for coverage to the end of the year.
