Thanks Peter
I dont get much time to contribute here but I do log in from
time to time - I have enough to do at Nikonians where
I also tend to post my images. I know where you are coming from
I was just interested in the DK as they are currently unavailable
from Nikon.
Yes I have a D2 and a D70 - I did ask this question before but
where is the meeting ?

Mark

I didn't answer because we don't give out birddog's address on the forum (we don't want our little meets to be gate crashed by the paparazzi trying to catch us in mid lust  )

PM birddog & he'll give you the address.
Peter

I'll be there! Last one for me before Euro holiday, so I'll be happy to hear travel tips while I clean my sensor on the day. :)

Wished I could be there. Adelaide is overcast this morning and looks miserable. What a contrast.

Birdy was joking Fozzie... It's cloudy and raining here too... Nevertheless... we're still going...

Sorry I couldn't make it, I did how ever grab so shots of my "other commitement" that kept me from coming to my first mini meet, I'll post them up when I get a chance. Looking forward to the next one (hopefully it doesn't clash with anything else on my calendar). Hope you all had a good day (the weather was all over the place).

It actually was true, leek!
The weather was perfect yesterday so we had our lunch with Vietnamese salad and fried noodle yesterday outdoor.
More than 30 members attended and lot of new faces.
Thanks all!

Both were true... As we were driving towards your place, we saw a large open patch in the clouds, centred over Belmore... You must have been using your influence Birdy...

Thanks again for yesterday... It was a great turnout and I'm sure that each and every one that attended appreciated your hospitality, the great company and the effort that you and your wife go to to lay on food and drink for the assembled masses... Your generosity is unparalleled...

P.S. could you please let me know the code number of that simple Manfrotto head that we discussed... the one for the monopod... I think it was Ray that also had one on his monopod...
Cheers, John

leek,
This is the ones:

A Bogen model #3232 (Manfrotto #234) swivel

http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/tutoria ... index.html

This swivel head will match the RRS QRP, which you're going to get in perfect state on your monopod.

Thanks for the link Birdy...

Oh... and in case anybody needs any further encouragement to come to a mini-meet: besides the excellent lunch, there are also the various sweet treats provided by other members... For example, yesterday there was an excellent chocolate slice (from Stubbsy??), of which I ate far too much and another excellent cake from Chrissine...

Besides being very tasty - they were also good subjects for my 105 Micro...

Well I now I am really sorry I didn't get there.....those look yummy.

Thankfully the soccer season is now over and I might be able to make a few more mini meets.....although I think my man keeps me away cause I always come home rabbiting on about what lense/tripod/flash...etc etc, I now need.

Cheers

John, the slice was indeed brought by me. Shame you don't have pics of the yummy noodle salad and the prawn & green papaya salad. You guys who haven't been to a meet - it's not JUST about cameras

Strueth, look at that nice slice and cake. I do miss Chrissine's Greek Delicacies and it looks like i might be missing Peter's culinary skills as well.

Will be home soon........all going well.

Yeah SB800 workshop will be great!

wendellt wrote:I will also be interested in getting a brief overview on the SB800, as i will be purchasing one on the day.
I would also like to compare the 17-55DX to the 28-70 f2.8 but i think i have made up my mind with getting the 17-55DX

Trust me neither 28-70 nore 17-55.
I'll buy the 17-35 f2.8!
The 28-70 is so haevy and not perfect but better then 17-55 .
The 17-35 is one of the best lens with the 70-210 VR for sharpness and results!
So, I'll think 3 lens! 17-35 f2.8; 50 f1.4; 70-210 VR!

Why?
Read this first

and if you want.......http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/2870afs.htm
If it is not enough.....just ask!
Take Care!

Ken Rockwell is very very opinionated - I take all he says with a grain of salt. THe members of the board who have the 17-55 love it. I like the idea of the 17-35 purely because it is using the centre of bigger glass.

I am one o fthose ppl that have the 17-55DX and so far I lurve it! I'm sorry I missed the minimeet yesterday, had a very busy week end at work.
