Birddog, looking forward to it! I noticed lunch provided Birddog, what would you like me to bring. While I can't cook to save myself, one can purchase most foods known to man locally so just give me the requirements and I will get it. I am very good with slabs, but they are not so appropriate while pp. Thank you and everyone else for organising this.

I am glad Matt K is there, looking forward to meeting him, maybe he could take me to the local tattoo shop and get the "rules of photography" tattooed on my forearm :D Or maybe I will wimp out and just write them on a slip of paper

I'm there!!

Address noted... (and just in case I can't secure my folks' car, what's the near train station?) PS. I also now understand why they don't allow Eclipse fluid to be shipped by air - the cabin pressure (or lack of) inside the plane caused my bottle to evaporate and leak somewhat, even thought the head is screwed on tight. Miscoloured label on bottle and cardboard box is evident some fluid's come out, lucky it didn't catch fire or I'd be in the news as a terrorist...

My place is five min. walk from Belmore train station.
Lucky you guy!, I should tell ya that I stored two bottles of Eclispe Fluid in an empty small coffee glass jar on the way back from the States last year.

Good news Woody. What didja get - a Centrino or P4 based lappy?!

Birddog - I haven't been around much cos I applied and was rejected for ADSL, so had to organise dialup net access again. Painfully slow...

But the blackjack tables paid off handsomely. So where to get caviar in this city? ;)

What reason did Helstra give you?

What about Unwired ? Might that work for you?

We ended up ordering the Dell Latitude D505, Pentium M based. It is for work so we couldn't get really good speced ones. Bloody budgets, who needs them!!! We were able to pumup the RAM up to 512 though so that helps.

Onyx,

Go unwired. Was the best thing I have done. Access all over Sydney and expanding to other capital cities very soon.

I am trying to get my work to connect us to this service for our laptops, fair call since were on call 24 hours I think :D

Unwired should be ok, but don't go direct; going through someone like Exetel will be less expensive.

And if you're going down that route, let me know; they have a referral scheme and we may as well take advantage of it.

I went Unwired.... It's much faster that the 300baud modem i had back in '83.

In fact I went to apply for wireless broadband initially (with OzEmail) - my house wasn't in the coverage area, so I went ADSL. They gave the same reason they gave me 2 yrs ago when I applied - high signal loss (ie. I live too far from the exchange). I seem to be living in a broadband dead zone - perhaps the only one in suburban Sydney! ;)

I hope the wireless coverage expands into my area soon, I'm really looking forward to that.

Edit: I just went to the unwired website and checked their coverage maps. According to the current map, I'm in the pink and should be able to get it! I'll try to apply thru them or another ISP... yay broadband looks to be a possibility! :)

Move yourself to one of the vacant apartment near the Star Casino with water view :D

LOL Birddog - then all my spare pocket change will end up in Star City's coffers...

Actually, this has sent me on a researching hunt of wireless. It seems there are two networks - iBurst and Unwired. I was out of coverage for iBurst (OzEmail being the reseller) but I might get lucky with Unwired! Thanks for those that suggested Unwired! It may just be the precursor to me getting broadband finally after all these years!! :)

Neither will get my business until they write linux drivers for their cards :)

When I'm on the roam there are plenty of wireless networks (both free and pay) for me to jack into... especially in sydney!

Unwired supply (sell!) a separate stand alone modem for use with their system. I don't believe that it needs any drivers, and just requires browser access. Mozilla should handle that with no problems.

hmmmm....

Gary,

That is correct. Just go to Harvey Norman or any Uni Bookstore and purchase the modem ($189).

Plug it in and follow the prompts, you are fully online within 3 mins. You can then swap the modem between any PC with no further setup, just plug into the eternet port.

I am using XP PRO.

Cheers,

Darryl.

If anyone coming to the meet on Saturday has a copy of Tom Hogans book on the D70 (obviously Printed out) would they mind bringing it along.

I have been thinking about getting it but would love to have a flick through first.
