Compact Drive PSD - Last firmware update for PD7X

Postby Glen on Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:52 am

http://www.compactdrive.com/gv_downloads.php

Many years ago a few from this site bought the Compact Drive PSD when CF was expensive. I hadn't used mine for a while, so was checking the HD capacity (only 60GB!) then referred to the website to check maximum HD capacity (100GB on PD7X). I found out that Compact Drive has gone (if you go to their front page you find the domain is for sale) but there were still a few pages up, most importantly the one with upgraded firmware. There have been 2 releases since new, the second firmware update moves transfer speed up to 8mb/s from 5 and provides support for cards over 4GB. If you have one of these units I would download it now, as I doubt this will be up for much longer.

The CompactDrive PD70X is also known as the HD80, HyperDrive80. The site can be found at:

http://www.hyperdrive.com

Select the HD80 and you can see the firmware updates there, they aren't going away. :D

I think it is more a matter of name branding. Initially, they were known as the CompactDrive in most of the world except the USA and maybe Europe. Looks like they are dropping the CompactDrive name and continuing with the HyperDrive name throughout.

Cheers,

André
(EDIT: clarify that I am talking about the PD70X, which is different then the one Glen is mentioning)

FYI,

I downloaded the 2.1 update from both sites and did a byte level comparison, they are identical. Note that on the HyperDrive site, there is a V2.2 upgrade.

Cheers,

André

Thanks Andre, I clicked on an old Hyperdrive link and it was dead (http://www.hyperdrive.com/shop/informat ... ?info_id=7) , I also tried the manufacturer http://www.3hdigital.com/en/fun-pd.htm who still have their back pages up but home comes up 404 error.

Have you installed this firmware on a PD7X? I would like to, but the process to do so says put it on a CF card insert into the machine and hold down the multi function wheel. I dont have a multi function wheel  The software I used worked from my desktop PC with the Compactdrive used as a drive

Andre, we might be talking about different software. The latest I got for the PD7X was 5-06-03 instead of 4.10.20 which was instead of the initial release.. The 5.06.03 is 1.1MB, the file from Hyperdrive is 16KB! Obviously most of that is probably the delivery program, but I probably need that not having the multifunction wheel on my unit.

Glen,

we are talking about two different beasts :? The one I have is the PD70X, you have the PD7X, quite different. It was a newer version of the PD7X, sorry for the confusion. The PD70X is the same as the HD80.

Cheers,

André
