New Epson Printer

Postby Matt. K on Mon Oct 08, 2007 10:45 pm

Epson have released a new A3 printer. It appears to have an expanded colour gamut and is capable of producing trillions of colours? (I don't believe humans can distinguish that many, so we will have to take their word for it). Link here

...The new system replaces blue ink with orange...

That'd be no good for Stubbsy ;)

Does look impressive, although I wonder how much better then the R1800 it really will be. We might see a price drop on the R1800 perhaps? (Or will this model replace it?)

Looks like a replacement to the R1800. Thanks for the link Matt.

So, they have 18,446,774,000,000,000 colours. I won't be happy till they get to a googolplex of colours.

How will I know what I am going to print? My screen only displays 16 million colours so maybe printing will become a lucky dip in regard to which of the trillions of colours I will end up with?

It will be good for printing pie-charts. :)

I think you will just have a better chance that the printer will be able to print those colours you see on screen. There will still be a big mismatch between the gamuts at the luminance and saturation extremes, but in between the odds are fair that you get exactly what you want.
