Looks really fake to me, especially with the lens looking like graphic art.

VR III also throws me off of it. VR II is barely in place.

Looks to me like it started life as a torch, maybe if you fitted it with a 'Betta Beama" it could light up some dark places.

Definatley fake. The features list is written nothing like any of the others Nikon has released.

why do people bother putting all that effort in, anyways?
body: nikon d200, d70s, f4s, f601.
lens:nikon 35-70mm f2.8, 70-300mm f4-5.6, 10.5mm f2.8, 20mm f2.8, 28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8.

it was probably a school project,

we had to make one for 3d animation.... back in the day :P

basically you create a product, build it in 3d and market it.

you can tell it's a 3d render as the grips are just a map,

i remember i built a set of speakers for my project

It's a bad render if it is. Looks more like something done in Illustrator.
