Rechargeable Batteries: Vartar Vs Energisers Vs etc

Postby genji on Mon Jan 24, 2005 2:24 pm

I'm looking into buying a set of rechargeable to use with the SB-800. Does anybody have any recommendations? I think i bookedmarked a site that compared rechargeables, but the better batteries were not avaible in oz. will have to find that site again.

thanks

Batteries will only ever be as good as the charger. Better chargers will optimise cell capacity and extend their life.

Speaking from personal experience, either Varta or Energizer Nimh rechargeables are as good as one another.

Buy the cheaper one, probably Energizers.

Nimhs are all quite cheap now anyway and compare favourably with Alkalines, but i stay away from Arlec.

You should be able to pick some 2300mAH AA's for about $2.50 each.

I use the Varta 15 min charge and go charger, and batteries for my SB800 and I have no complaints at all.. It's great to be able to top up, or fully charge the batteries in 15 mins.. + 5 minutes to cool the batteries down.. they get damn hot :)

I am with you on the Vartas Gleff. Enjoyed your website too - the countdown on how long to go of Bush as president is great, although scary.

Its not the name on the battery but the battery in the battery that counts.

Unless of course Rayovacs are complete crap in which case I don't want to know.

I also did some investigating on batteries and chargers when I purchased the sb-800, and came across the site below which contains good local (OZ) information on products and useful/credible product reviews

http://www.users.on.net/~mhains/

Apologies if this has been posted before.

I ended up going 8xSanyo 2500mah Ni-MHAA batteries with the powerbase ct-3 mini charger. This combination seems to work pretty well together. With these batteries, I don't see that I'll ever need to use the 5th battery on the sb-800 as the recharge time seems very short, ie. 1-2 secs.

Till next time...
Regards
Keith
