G'day Beachside. How many places do you have available for this workshop now? I might have another person who might be interested. Have you worked out the cost yet?

At the risk of being a bit daggy, what do we all think of having name tags on the day? With real name and forum name?

With 25+ people, it is impossible to remember all names.

Just a thought.

You Dag :!: :!: :!:

MNo, it is not a bad idea, I can never remember anyones name and this way I can take a photo of you with your name badge on so I know who you are afterwards

I'm a dag, and terrible with names as well. I think it's a great idea (though if someone holds up a big camera and says 'follow me' like a tour group the label is off!!)

name tags are a good idea, I'll try to pre-print them, and bring some to write on on the day.

what about ideas for sets? i have a lot of army set/props I can bring that, we need to set up a few studios :D

I wouldn't mind some really basic sets for the models, just a funky chair or something they can interact with. Is there a large fan at the studio to get some hair moving.

As for the stills, I prefer LOT's of colour... maybe some colorful toys (Bruin brand are good), something that we can pretend we are doing a catalogue shoot for to give us some direction, rather than just shooting away at an object.

Some suggestions anyway.

If anyone is traveling down from Sydney or NSW are you interested in sharing a drive?

I am undecided whether to drive or fly. I have a 7 seat Pathfinder so plenty of room (and a DVD for the people in the back :D)

If you are interested either post here or PM me soon otherwise I might book some flights.

Bruce, do you ever see copies of the USA mag - Digital Photo Pro. Front cover is regularly a portrait of a model with "weird" eye make up. Would.t mind adding this onto the day's list if we have a make up artist and/or model is agreeable. With varied lighting, these could make another good series of shots.

In any case, varied portrait lighting would also be great to do more of.

Looking forward to the day!

Re: "Pro for a day" - Melb Studio Workshop

Postby Oz_Beachside on Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:06 pm

well, the week has finally arrived... and what a day this saturday will be!

When: we will open from 830am, for a 9am start, opening with an introduction to light, concepts for the day, and a run thorugh. will then break into groups (we may split into beginners and intermediates) and spread ourselves around the 4 workstations. We will have 3 studio sets, and 1 still life. We will be using studio flash, natural light, and speedlights (on and off camera).

Where: Enter the front door of daylight studios at
Daylight Studios,
First Floor, 122 Chapel Street,
St. Kilda, Vic 3182
, walk up the stairs, and register at the landing. From there make your way to the kitchen break out area.

What to bring: bring your camera (we will have a few there, and santa may even have a nikon D3), bring your speedlight if you have one, a suitable lens, perhaps a mid range zoom, or a standard lens. Plenty of batteries, cards, and energy!

we will have a light lunch brought in, and there are shops nearby also.

see you there!

Excellent work Bruce, many thanks. Looking forward to Saturday very much.

Just looking at the wonderful Google maps, the satellite view shows a good size car
park right behind the studio - hopefully allowing all day parking.

Jeff, Greg, others,
ample parking behind the venue, in the supermarket carpark. first few rows are all day. its the quiet park of chapel st, so parking should be fine, particularly at that time of day.

see you there :D

Regrettably, I have to pull out. Work requires me to be on standby this weekend and I can't find a substitute, which means I can't go out of town.

I suck at portraits and was really looking forward to this workshop. Just my luck I guess...

Hi guys,

It was certainly a wonderful whole-day workshop and didn't seem to be enough! LoL

Nice meeting up with all that came and I'm still struggling with the names while trying to digest what have been shared by antsl, pirostitch, daveb and oz_beachside. Thanks heaps for organising this workshop, Bruce.

Now plenty of images to look through!

:agree: ditto what whoalse said! I had a great day and met great people, even managed to learn a few things along the way - now I just need to remember them ...

Thanks again to Bruce for putting it all together and to Anthony, Wayne and Dave for giving up their Saturday to educate us!

Elena :)
