Melbourne Chapter Dinner

Postby Greg B on Mon Jul 10, 2006 12:27 pm

OK folks, the AW is Sydney is coming up. It is a great event, but no doubt there are many Melbourne members who are unable to attend.

So here's a thought - what say we have a dinner for the Melbourne chapter?

- probably somewhere fairly central
- somewhere fairly relaxed, maybe pizza/asian/pub? There are somne great places along Victoria Street, not expensive, grog on tap, Totos in Carlton was good in Jan '05 when Gary and Leigh came down to Melb. Any other ideas welcome.
- any night of the week. Friday's good, but mid week would be OK if preferred
- I'm not suggesting the same night as the AW, some members may be heading to Sydney, but maybe mid August?

Thoughts???

If it was the same night as the AW, we could always get someone to ring you Greg, stick your phone on speaker phone, and you could hear the winners announced. 8)

I am in Brisbane this week, so only online during the day (when I should be working). So I am bumping this now in the hope that someone from Melbourne logs on and reads it

Thai, not sure about at the airport, not really central and even at 40% off, probably still pricey.

I'm thinking somewhere pretty casual too.

This would be a partner friendly event.

OK, who else....

I may not make it on the 5th. Have a minor surgery on the 1st and not sure if I will be mobile.

We will swap! how is that sound?
I'll be in Mel. with Mel group and you'll be in Sydney with the troop here.
It's a perfect plan to me.

And this was with your first post of this thread.
I don't know why you changed it.
It's perfectly when we have Mel. group joining Sydney group at the AW, especially over the speakerphone.

Sorry for the confusion makario.

Birdy - there was never any intention to hold it on the 5th. My initial post said a Friday night or any night during the week, no dates.

Leigh suggested same night as AW. I said I thought of that too. But didn't want to conflict - the speakerphone idea is really not practical anyway.

We are just talking about getting together for dinner. No other complications required.

So just to reiterate, we are working on Friday 11th August as the date for dinner and a venue to be decided. Those members planning to go to Sydney for the AW 4,5,6 Aug, don't worry, there is no conflict.

We have good interest already, the more the merrier.

That's good Greg. It would be shame if interstate people were in a bind over whether to attend the AW or a local dinner. Last year we had a few interstaters here and they had a ball. Get in quick people.

I just checked the Virgin & Jetstar websites and you can fly Jetstar Avalon to Sydney for between $79 and $109 each way and with Virgin Melbourne to Sydney for between $109 and $129 each way.

So far as accomodation - the Formule1 motels are a good price (but no frills) starting at $69 per room night

Another bump before I sign off for the day and head back to my hotel.

Melbourne people, yowser yowser, dinner on Friday 11 August, are you in?

Location suggestions welcome, criteria
1. centralish
2. cheapish
3. casualish

Other halves welcome.
