Postby Hudo on Sat Oct 22, 2005 10:09 pm

Hi,

If the weather is good tomorrow I'm heading to the V8 Jet Boats at Melton as a car shoot I had booked has been cancelled. http://www.v8jetboats.com.au If any one else is going drop me a line.

I heard about this on the radio and was thinking of going. Not sure yet if I will but if I have nothing to do I'll be there

Hi,

That's where I heard it on MMM. I spoke to the event organisers and sounds like a exciting event but it's $25.00 to get in. They did not seem forth coming with hey come in for free but they did give me a contact mobile n# for on the day to get in touch with. I'll be leaving the Mt Waverley area around 9.30AM and returning home by 5PM so if anyone is looking for a ride and your along the way drop me a note.

Hi Redline,

One of the models I shoot (Miss Skyline) has a Nissan Skyline. Her partner has one as well and he works for a car import company and is into all that fast japanese car stuff. So we where to do a shoot with her and her car.

Hey,

I spoke with the event organiser and as a freelance they did not offer a free invite but then again I did not push for it either. Gates open at 11AM but they wil llet people in earlier. Racing is a knockout event down to the best 2 boats in 3 categories. There is a presentation at the end.

Since I have to be home by 5pm I thought 4hrs of shoots should give enough time for good action shots and that works out like $6.25 an dhour so cheap fun. If I like it and the pics are good then I'll push for free entry next time and cover the complete event with still or video. So hoping it's a action packed day and little or no rain.

Not that my XR6 is anything flash but muddy car parks is not the place for it either. If it's raining I'll be giving it a miss as well. However if the suns out then looks like worth giving at a go especially as I know have applied for a leave pass from the wife :D

Mission completed. A fun day was had by all, well just me. Was able to get a media pass and spent about 4hrs there. Had a little rain around 1.30pm just as I was heading off. Too tired to try and post some pics will try that tomorrow.

yeah the rain was quite annoying but not enough for me to pack up and leave. i was more concerned about the contains of the water on track, it smelled like salt water.
do you think the organisers would be interested in the crash pics?

Hi,

Great shots I did not see your part II post. I headed off around 1.30PM. I will go to the next meet there when ever that it. May next time take the video equipment as well.

The organisers are slow to respond as E-mails of mine have not been asnwered but they where very good to me on the day. You can always ask them in relation to your pics? The local paper photographer left around 12.30 ish and the offical guy would have been their but not sure if he would have got the same shots.

Are you heading to Sandown on Tues for the sports sedans?

No problem. Through the models I work with I have been asked to video a new grid girl team on Sat 20th and I'm assuming it's at Sandown but their calender is not up to date. So if I don't make it Tues I'll be their on the 20th.

Well Thai & Mark, i think the shots you both got are great. Mark i loved them and have a bit of a thing for boats as i used to race Power Boats when i was younger and would love to get loose in one of these beauty's.
Some great shots there and Thai who knows mate, the crash shots were good as well.
Well done to both of you.

John,

Thanks. Trying a few different aspects to my photography at present rather than just the models I usually work with. Boats are not as pretty them other twin hull gals but at least they don't cancel on you at the last minute hehehehehe shhhhhhhh Did I say that ???????

Hi Thai, and no to that question, I dont think my mate will do that i guess he is selling them for there use. i know he sent proposals to some mags and still waiting to hear, but i can sell or do what i want with my pics so will have to wait and see what we make out of them as it is a slow process. But he has that control as he does this all the time and has the contacts so i leave it upto him. Really it does't bother me but anything i get out of it is a bonus.

Mark i thought i might have seen some of these girlies at the big race but was scarce and i would swap you.LOL Would be nice to try some shots with a model.

Hi John,

Working with models if a different ball game. It's hard work. You need to be as much as a people person as a photographer. Very competitive as photographers try different locations, settings and styles to make the girls look their best. Also the expense if doing indoor work with studio hire and then having to hire or buy the lights which I have done.

Thai usually you would be paying the models for their time. Like me if you network hard and have a good reputation then most of my work is what is known as TFCD = Time Free for CD. The models get the pics on CD or may get a few prints as well from you. Beats having to pay a model up to $150.00 and hour might be min 2~3 hrs for a shoot.

Not always paid models are reliable but in saying that when your doing TFCD you get a lot of cancellations even 1hr before a shoot. I could go on but working with models can be very rewarding in creating some wonderfull images but it cam also be very very time consuming.

Hudo, i dont doubt that at all, i know it would be hard and some would not be easy to get along with, but yeh something different for sure. We dont have many shows down here like this so dont get the chance, who knows might strike it lucky, to get some pics to play with.
