Sydney Fire Night 28th Jan Coogee Beach- limited places

Postby aim54x on Sun Jan 17, 2010 11:36 pm

Hi everyone,

A very good friend of mine has decided that she would take it upon herself to organise an event at Coogee beach where we can get a group of fire twirlers (and possibly other performers) for the purposes of photography. Both of us prefer this format over the event at Bondi on the 29th as there will be an understanding that photography is the aim. But I will have to limit the number of photographers as this will be a smaller event (the actual limit will be somewhere between 6-10 dependent on the number of performers that confirm).

My friends will be at Coogee for most of the day participating in the normal beach fun, but the fire will come out when the sun goes down. Depending on how I feel (and if there is spare equipment) I may pick up a staff as well.

So anyone from the following list (priority list from my other post) who can definitely make this event please let me know....and if you cant I will bump you off the list and work my way down. Anyone else who is interested please let me know and I will add you to the list.

-Leek - MIA

Thanks for sorting this out Cam - I think the smaller one will be much easier to photograph with tripods etc.

David, Mozzie you two will almost def be in (your in the top 6 of the list), Whitey I would love to have you come along (would be great to meet you) so fingers crossed. On the performer side, at the moment we are still waiting for numbers to commit.

I'm keeping fingers crossed that we will have a decent sized group of fire twirlers.

The policy is that the fire comes out when the sun goes down...so I would probably say we should meet up later in the afternoon (after 5). But if you have the day off then maybe you want to be there for longer. I will probably make my way down to coogee a bit earlier and see if i can get some photos of other circus mayhem, but i wont really know until closer to the day.

I need to get home from work then drive down so probably won't be there until about 6:30 or 7 depending on traffic.

Thanks Wendell, it will be great to have you there.

As of today (18/1/2010) I have can see six performers attending the event and on the basis that they will all be fire twirling I am going to LOCK in the top 5 people in my list. Do not dispair I have been warned that a lot of people are likely to commit to the event closer to the date, SO if you are interested (even if your not on the list) let me know and I'll keep building the list as performers commit to the event.

I am looking at making fire photos something that is available to us on a more regular basis so if you miss out on this outing there will be more to come.

Wet weather plan? who needs a stinking wet weather plan?

I had a quick chat with the fire ppl, and we are pretty good to go unless it is pouring, and if it starts to pour there is plenty of shelter down there and we can take opps between downpour. So, I would say...bring less if you can...and make it all easy to protect from the rain.

I'm off to pack my Vertex (waterproof cover + easy zip up) and I hope to see you all at 7....unless it is pouring down in rain.

Thanks again Cameron for getting this up and running and please pass on my thanks again to all the guys and girls that performed for us. Just had a quick look at my shots and they do beautiful work - I'd relish the chance to shoot each of them again.

Next time though, some one just yell out BACKGROUND every few mins - that damn table is hideous...

It is great to hear that fun was had by everyone that attended. It would be nice to get photos from everyone to pass on to the performers. It would be great if you could give me as many photos as possible (they love stuff up photos) but if you only want to share a few, then please send me your favourites (half dozen at least please) in high res so that the performers can do as they please with them (web display or print). I personally give them essentially anything that makes it past my cull in full res but I understand if you do not wish to do so.

Hopefully we can organise another event soon!
